Here we are, Moms weekend. If you are anything like me you already started celebrating that job you do 24/7, 365 days of the year this afternoon. The sentimental tugs at the heart begin and they remind me why I am right where I am right now, with my family. I stopped many times this week to say an extra I love you to these 6 little beings that I love more then life. With everyday demands pulling me in every direction I sometimes forget where my legacy lies right here with my children.
This new song by Avril Lavigne called, “Fly” has been on auto-replay all week and although she released the song for the Special Olympians I can’t help to think about all the moms I know on this mothers day weekend.

Last week reached out to the followers here and gifted 5 Mothers Day sessions and as life would have it 2 moms had mother duties call and were unable to make it but 3 did and it was a pleasure to make them feel special by capturing them with their children. I think it is important to share moments like these with other moms. It is kind of like a moment in time stopped forever. They will never ever be this young again. I wanted to share some of what they thought about themselves as well as what makes them unique as a mother.
“What makes me happy?
LIFE!
Early mornings with extra cuddles. Smiles, laughter, hugs. Muddy rainboots by the front door. Tutus by the shower. Pink plates, pink forks, pink cups by the sink. Crums under the table. Goldfish under the car seat. Crayons in my purse. Frozen songs during long drives. Recitals, tippy toes, concerts. Stuff animals under my pillow. Piles of books by the bed. Mermaids in the bathtub. Birthdays, kissed and LOVE.”
“What makes my heart go pitter patter? The lovely moments I get to witness between two sisters that share one heart.”
“What makes me unique as a mother is the time that I have together with my son on my 3 “off” days. Since I work 12 hr shifts and work 3 days on and 3 days off, my 20 month old son Kameron and I have a lot of time for just the two of us. I treasure that time more than words can express. We play, I dress him up for my blog (My Stylish Son), and we learn (both of us from each other). “
“My own parents continually remind me of the video from my kindergarten graduation where my teacher asks me what I want to be when I grow up. I replied “a mom,” and all of the mothers in the audience cooed with delight. I scoffed at that video in my later years but have now realized that my 5 yr old self was absolutely right.”
“I felt so blessed to be a mother. It was such an amazing feeling to know that we had created this perfect little being and he was all ours. I loved every part of being a new mom, not so much the nights, but I knew I would miss it as he got older and I did and still do miss waking up with him at 3am and having him fall asleep on my chest.”
“I feel I am a unique mom because I focus positively on my children’s upbringing and I do what I feel is right for them. I also focus on teaching them compassion and love and most importantly respect and kindness. We live in a very judgemental society and I want my children to celebrate what makes them unique, even if it’s outside the social norm. I don’t want them to look back and regret anything because I don’t. They are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I love them both so much.”
I think we mothers each, mother in our own way but when it comes to love we are all so similar. We all love our children so much it hurts. Some of us communicate it better then others but the love is there and it never goes away. I look at it like the quilts that my grandmother used to make. The pieces that fit together just perfectly. The colors, blocks seem to fit seamlessly together and make a master piece. We are like that you know, Mothers. We are unique and our job is important.
Do you feel it? That common string we are all holding on to, that connects us to our children’s hearts. Regardless what we all accomplish every day nothing matters as much as holding on tightly to our babies, no matter how old they are.
Spread your wings, across the universe. It’s your time to shine. There’s a light inside of all of us and you’ll find that it’s your time to fly. Motherhood is not perfect, it is messy and hard. There are good days and bad days but if you lay your head down at night and feel that love that only a mother can feel you are doing a good job.
