Isn’t to great, the choices we have in life!  We have the ability to  choose where we buy our food, where we get our gas, where we buy our clothes and where we get our haircut.  The list could go on and on but we have choices and I love that!

I love that we can make decisions every day where we spend our money, who we spend our time with……That makes our life special.

Up to no good!

I am not from Chicago, I mean I was not born here.  I am a transplant…… someone who knew very few people just a few short 15 years ago.  I moved here right out of college and it has been up hill since.

I love where I live….I love the friends I have met.  They are all around……at the post office, church, the health food store and our favorite restaurant.  These people make life interesting and colorful and I am so thankful for all of them!

Sometimes I say to my husband it amazes me how supportive people are, especially the people you only see once a week….. once every couple of months or who you never see and just communicate with virtually!  Really the support we receive from these individuals is so very important to our family and to me.

Pre-Haircut smile!

They make me smile when I’m sad.  They make me laugh when all I want to do is cry!  They care and they take the time to let me know it.  I love that!

I truly aspire to be that person for others.  I hope I can be the person who eases someone else’s pain or sadness by a kind word or a hug.  I hope I can be there to lend a hand when someone needs to be lifted up.

Life is hard….it is hard for all of us and I truly believe we all need to open our eyes and thank others for the little things or even big things they do for us.  I am the worst  at writing thank you notes there are other ways I show my gratitude but this is something I hope to improve on!  I try and make sure people feel special but I do not write enough thank you cards, that is for sure…..  My husbands cousin just wrote a blog post on this and she called it the The Thank You Project..  Check out her post because it really makes you think and it is a great challenge.

As I sit here and think of all the people I am thankful for I wonder if they even know it.  I am going to change that.  I am going to make SURE they know it!

On that note we got haircuts this weekend!  You see when you have 6 kids haircuts fall on the list of the last things in the world you want to do EVER!  In fact I invested in clippers and tried to cut their hair myself about a year ago.   I am here to tell you that did not go well!  My sons looked terrible and my husband was less then thrilled!  After I finished we were off to the salon.  ( That one will go down in the Mom screwed up book.)

We are lucky though because we have Michael to take care of our kids hair as well as our own.  Michael Alexander is like family.  He is the Greek Uncle we never had!  Probably because we are not Greek! HA!  He is exactly what I mean when I talk about the people in our life who lift us up!

You see every time I walk in that salon I am greeted with a big hug and a kiss.  My kids are greeted with a big hug and a kiss.  We have known him since my husband and I started dating.  He has watched our family grow and continues to do so.  He thinks about us and he calls me when he sees something he thinks is important for my family to know.  He asks about Grace and tells me how beautiful she is.  He assures me that she will be just fine!  He knows my son Ryan has sensory problems and he takes special care when he cuts his hair.  He puts up with behavior that most would not.  He cares…..and I love that!

This is what happens when Mom tells son we are going for haircuts tomorrow and son decides to take matters into his own hands!  Best part is Mom does not notice until Michael points it out upon arrival!  Nice!

So go hug your friends and let them know how thankful you are….heck send a Thank you card, even better!  Just make sure they know!

Happy Hump Day!
